Strong-Enough Weight Lifting Straps – Review

Overview, Details & Everything Relevant You Need To Know

[/nx_note][/nx_animate]

[nx_heading style=”underlined” heading_tag=”h2″ size=”21″ align=”center”]What Are IronMind Strong-Enough Lifting Straps?[/nx_heading]

Overview:

IronMind Strong-Enough Lifting Straps are a fantastic addition to grip training equipment. A major pro is that they’re extra thin, which means you’re still able to feel the barbell with your palms as opposed to using fat, rope-like straps. The fewer foreign objects there are between your palms & barbell interfering with your technique, the more successful your lifts can be.

These are also the famous, beloved official lifting straps of the World’s Strongest Man contest. Asking the man himself, 4x WSM legend, Zydrunas, he straight up told me: “Use IronMinds straps, these won’t break.”

Made of Nylon, a synthetic fabric that is rugged & durable. Unless you are deliberately trying to destroy these straps due to poor handling, they will last you for years, up to a decade if not more.

The biggest difference comes from the correctly sewn loop. This is the place where many other lifting strap producers screw up. IronMind straps have a loop that is flipped back & sewn together, facing the edge outside of your wrist & not against it. Lifting massive weights would dig that edge right into your wrist, causing pain if it was incorrectly sewn.

Having a correctly sewn loop has tremendous benefits to it; no wonder WSM guys like IronMind’s lifting straps.

These straps are a good workhorse. After using them in conjunction with chalk, they become coarse like sandpaper, adding even more grip to your ability to hang onto the barbell. Dominant straps all around for the best general purpose.

IronMind Strong-Enough Lifting Straps can be used for multiple purposes. Use them for deadlifts, rows, pull-ups, static hold, snatches, or clean pulls when you don’t want to be limited by your grip or if you want to give the calluses on your palms a rest while you continue targeting other muscle groups.

There is, hands down, Top Pro Strongman choice #1 – If you’re not using IronMind lifting straps, you’re not lifting as much as you could be. Good choice to help you along & unlock your potential.

Use Smart Leverages

[nx_list icon=”icon: share” icon_color=”#227f27″]

  • Recovery from injuries – Lifting straps should always be used if a lifter has a hand injury that prevents them from grabbing a barbell. Whether it’s torn callus, sprain or dislocated finger – Every once in a while your grip work might get too tough & you have to take time to recover – Instead of getting burnt out or staring at ceiling – You can keep working out by using lifting straps while giving your poor palms of your hands a break from the beating they get from the bar.

  • Assistance work – You can lift considerably bigger weights & do many more repetitions where your grip strength becomes a limiting factor. Your overall body strength progress doesn’t have to suffer, or be cut off, since your grip strength is limited by various reasons: rehabbing an injury/ is currently in progress to catch up in strength/ needs to be compensated for your muscle imbalances/ difficult to perform exercises that would normally be awkward without straps/ needs help to stabilize isometric exercises.

  • Purposefully targeting different muscle groups – Our grip is the very first link & inseparable part of most exercises. In other words, whether you’re doing rows, pull-ups, deadlifts, or pull-downs, you are using your grip. Always. Your goal might be to train your entire posterior chain that includes exercises for upper back, lats, lower back, traps, or quads, but not doing it simultaneously with grip work. If you want to train your grip, it can be done separately on its own time. You don’t have to sacrifice everything else at the expense of your grip.

  • You’ve already trained grip enough – Weight lifting straps will be excellent if you have already completed your grip training workout & you want to carry on with different exercises. In that case, lifting straps can be highly beneficial, not only by taking the load off from your fingers, hands & forearms but also preventing possible injuries & overtraining that can easily happen with your hands. Remember, your forearms are one of the smallest muscle groups in your body; it’s easy to get inflammation if you overdo it. Use straps to balance training.

Align Equipment With Your Goals

[nx_divider top=”no”]
[nx_list icon=”icon: share” icon_color=”#227f27″]

  • Beginner Lifters: It’s recommended to train for at least 1 year before you have developed some basic grip strength. As a beginner, regardless of your additional tools, you are rapidly improving & greatly benefiting from almost every exercise & don’t need to add any fancy tricks to it yet. Take your time, you’re getting there.
  • Intermediate Lifters: You can use lifting straps in warm-up sessions on various pulls & deadlifts. You should own a pair, no matter what. If you’re taking Olympic lifting more seriously & you’re snatching more often, you may find that the straps allow you to train longer & harder than without them. A simple recipe for success.
  • Advanced Lifters: Be careful if you’re a competitive Olympic weight lifter! Do not use straps 1-2 weeks out from competition. Lifting straps are great, allowing you to train harder & longer, but they also might have a little impact on your lifting technique & provide a “different feel” on the weight. Find a balance between using & not using straps & you should be well off.
  • Competitive Strongmen: Everything you do pretty much has written HEAVY all over it. Compared to Olympic weight lifters, you should use lifting straps even more often if close to competition – To maximize your training efficiency meanwhile reducing the risks of getting injured as much as possible. It’s absolutely vital to keep you 100% on track & also injury-free.

[nx_dropcap style=”default”]1[/nx_dropcap] With no sewn loop – These are specifically designed for Olympic weightlifters.

These are very likely the hardest to use for beginners because the ends of those lifting straps are tricky to manage & they come off from barbell very easily.

But that’s the trick itself & the whole point of those lifting straps – Quick bailouts for maximum safety.

You can perform the most technical of lifts without getting stuck under the bar & retain your mobility at the same time.

[/nx_column] [nx_column size=”1/3″]

[nx_dropcap style=”default”]2[/nx_dropcap] With sewn loop – These are attached at the ends, sewn into a closed loop.

The easiest of the three & fun to use. For everyone who doesn’t like to manage the ends of lifting straps with no sewn loop.

With sewn loops come off as quickly as they go on & won’t choke up your wrists. Excellent for any athlete.

Highly recommended for complete beginners – Lifting straps that are outstanding but easiest to handle.

[/nx_column] [nx_column size=”1/3″]

[nx_dropcap style=”default”]3[/nx_dropcap] Sewn & looped over – Sewn to the strap & then the strap is passed back through the loop.

These are Strongman-style lifting straps for maximum heavy lifts.

These are built to secure the weight you’re going to lift as much as possible.

These straps are very easy to use & inspire confidence.

Lifting Straps like these are specifically designed to give you the most secure grip on the bar you could have.

Depending on the style of lifting straps, there are usually three different styles. All straps serve the exact same purpose – to support your grip for lifting weights & to maintain static holds. The difference is in minor variance in how they are built & who will benefit the most from each of them. Do not underestimate using these smart leverages; they help to optimize your training routines.

The One Set of Straps to Get Everything Done

Fantastic lifting straps. These are the only ones you’ll ever need for regular gym shenanigans. IronMind is famous for having high-quality products. They focus on the World Strongest Man circuit after all, everything must be top-notch & nothing less. I doubt you’ll break a pair of these any time soon, if at all, easily lasting the better part of a decade if not more.

What I like about this product is that they’re extra thin. This means that even while equipped & wrapped, you’re still able to feel the barbell. This is a huge perk, as thin straps will mostly not interfere with your lifting technique.

The biggest difference compared to other lifting straps comes from the correctly sewn loop that won’t dig into your wrist while lifting really heavy weights. That alone, on top of everything else, makes these hands down the best lifting straps you can have.

Opposite of this is getting fat, rope-like straps that feel like foreign bodies between your palm & barbell. Provides an entirely different feel & can interfere with your ability to lift correctly. Matter of taste & different style.

Like most of the IronMind equipment, Strong-Enough Lifting Straps are more expensive. That drawback comes with the benefit of getting high-quality items. They’re beautiful & well built. I’d be surprised if you’re a strength training enthusiast & don’t like these.

  1. Hi, I was impressed with the level of detail in the review of strong enough lifting straps, and not being a regular weight lifter I would refer back to the website for additional information.

My own preference is for lifting light weights and carrying out repetitions, so i would be interested to know what is the minimum weights that you recommend use of the lifting straps for, thanks Alan.

    1. For light weight & max repetitions, I’d say use straps when your grip starts to fail to make it possible to put more emphasis on posterior chain if that’s your aim

There is no written or agreed upon minimum – It’s individual & for you to determine where the threshold is. Largely, it boils down to your own ability, knowing your physical prowess & the goals that you want to achieve.

Using smart leverages such as lifting straps can help an individual athlete to push past certain boundaries limited by grip.
