Product Overview

The only wrist-roller without weight plates – SideWinder ProXtreme – The best of the best from wrist rollers world.

Hands down one of my favorite hand strengtheners – It’s silent, durable, adjustable, portable, well-built.. yet simple &
most of all, effective. Designed by former tree climber Chris Nieman. The idea was to create a better, more compact,
innovative version of the age-old “weight-on-a-rope” type of wrist roller.

The result is SideWinder wrist-roller that allows quick, effective yet comfortable workout for wrists, hands & forearms.
It’s built with rubber-coated cylinders that fits well into your palms, while providing enough friction to twist the device.

Requires no rope & weight plates – Simply set the resistance that you like & start twisting – From easy to challenging.

For adjusting purposes, SideWinder has a well-designed resistance dial that is also marked with five lines to measure
your workout precisely. Simply turn the built-in calibrated tension dial & control the suitable resistance level for you.

  1. I’ve been looking for a hand gripper or some sort of wrist roller to help me with my grip strength and this is definitely a neat device.
I have purchased a lot of hand grippers and a lot break easily and are just plain cheap.

I wanted to see the cost of this gripper but it seems like they don’t have them in stock right now.

Maybe one day there will be more on the shelf and when they do come back, I will be sure to purchase one so that way I can apply it to my exercise. Good site.

    1. Indeed Martin, it’s definitely better idea to roll with the quality.
If cheap grippers break, that’s only a minor problem – But if they break you along with them, that’s a major one.

Also, to make things better, try not to forget your finger extensors for muscle balance – A perfect tool for that would be Expand-Your-Hand Bands, from IronMind for example, to power up your overall grip strength in harmonious way.

The “ProXtreme” version of SideWinders is usually about $149, unless they have discount.
Surprisingly, they run out of stock yesterday, but no worries, we’ll see them back on store shelves in couple of days.

Other 3 versions of SideWinders adjustable wrist-rollers are currently available:
Both “Pro” & “Revolution” as well as “Grip Twister”

  2. This is really cool. I’m always in the weight room trying to get stronger and more fit.

I’ve been looking around for this type of equipment because i hurt my wrist a while back playing basketball, and my physical therapist to do some strength training to get it stronger.

I have only been using the old weight and string technique and its definitely time for an upgrade.
Is it durable enough to where i can use it for years to come? Thanks, very helpful.

    1. Adjustable wrist-rollers can be & likely are an excellent way to rehab wrist trauma & to get the overall forearm strength back up again & even beyond.

It’s good idea to think of SideWinders as investment for years to come. The manufacturer has really put an impressive amount of work into this one.
They’re built like tanks, hand-crafted & really detailed.

It’s natural that first of all, after trauma, the things we think about the most are how to get rid of pain quickly & also how to increase overall flexibility.
SideWinder really targets your wrists first & foremost – You can take full advantage of that.

Once you get muscle & joints mobility & versatility back, the strength will follow very quickly.

  3. Hey, Henry great product review.
You brought back memories with the old string and weights attached to the other end. Let me just say for the record back then it was the go to for huge forearms.

I also can remember when we used to do wrist curls with the barbell or dumbells. Talking about injuries for days. The pain caused we endured doing those exercise and after was not at all fun.

I could really use this product now. I am a bowler and it will definitely help me with gripping the bowling ball.
Will the Sidewinder gvie more flexibility to the wrists than using the old one-hand hand grips?

    1. Hehe, old rope-style wrist-rollers are still very fun to use & effective..
They’re not going anywhere. Just like barbells & dumbbells.
..just slightly more unpredictable, especially if you drop the weight – More chance for injuries

Wrist-rollers like SideWinders are specifically focusing on your wrists. In a very smooth & consistent way which is a huge advantage.
This is an excellent choice, if you’re all out on getting stronger & stable wrists.
It includes both wrist flexor & extensor movements to cover each possible aspect.

I’d use wrist-roller in addition to hand grippers – More crush grip strength + wrist strength.
As a bowler, it gives you 100% competitive edge & a upper hand over your competition.

  4. Hey there,
I started wall climbing a couple of months ago and I’m looking on ways to strengthen my wrists and forearms which will help really help me during climbing, which model do you suggest? the SideWinder Pro or ProXtreme.

Oh and I also go to gym 4 times/week for weight training and cardio.
Please let me know which one you think suits me the most. Thanks!

    1. ProXtreme is the biggest & the most badass version of SideWinders – It has the thickest handle..
& as we know, the thicker the handle the more it helps with muscle activation.

The more muscle it activates, the more muscle fibers it uses, the more muscle & strength you gain.
Thicker handle also means you can’t get your hands around it so well, it’s more geared towards open-hand strength, which is all quality for a climber.

In your sport, it’s likely you focus more on static functional strength rather than building mass only..

So, choosing Pro or ProXtreme depends on your hand size, to see how they fit for you individually.. also, the goal & function of this tool will have in your workout regime – If it is focusing on warm-ups / cool-downs, or main workout. Is it for conditioning or helping to build the main strength.

I’d tell you really can’t go wrong here in either cases – Plus, this product is built by a climber itself.

Seems like you’re on a rigorous training schedule, which is excellent news. Regardless of which SideWinder you decide to go with, it definitely has a useful & important impact in your area of expertise.
Build stronger wrists in all directions.

Let me know, if I can help you with anything else.

  5. Well…
This looks like a great product, but, I don’t know that the price makes it better than a traditional roller.
Unless of course, you are going to be using it on a VERY regular basis.

Do you have any suggestions on how to incorporate something like this into a daily workout?
Like how many reps, how much time, or progression of stiffness, etc.?

    1. Traditional wrist-rollers are excellent.
Nothing wrong with them, they’re also very effective & will remain so.

But indeed, it all depends on your profession & the level you’re at – SideWinder is a next grade stuff. It has more angles, more possibilities, more uses, & yes, the price seems quite scary.
Luckily, you’re investing into quality & safety. Guys who have had serious injuries in the past, can tell right off the bat what it’s worth, to invest a little bit more, if you can avoid one. Safety is just priceless.

Speaking of daily workouts, SideWinder is specifically designed to target your wrists: Both flexor & extensor movements of your wrists. It really burns up your arms once you give it a go, so take it easy.
There’s no other tool out there that does it in quite such fashion.
You can use it the same day after you’ve finished doing biceps & triceps training etc – An excellent way to finish off arm-day, to get maximum pump into your arms & increase the muscle gains as much as possible.

Shifting to reps, time, progression – We should always remember, that hands & forearms are one the smallest muscle groups in our body. It’s very easy to over train them, OR get injured.

      Hence all those “injury warnings”.
Progression is also always very individual.

To train your grip effectively, you usually want to specifically focus on your grip 2x per week only – Be careful not to overdo your thing – Even guys from World Strongest Man contest recommend to do so, the ones who can roll up frying pans with their bare hands.

Train, hit your grip & forearms hard & then rest up.
Just like Samuelsson said – “If you train, train.. if you rest, rest – Don’t do something in between”
The key is to train your grip intensely – Shorter breaks between sets, less volume, but more intensity.

      SideWinder has literally a “never-ending-rope”
so, it’s an excellent way to boost grip training intensity
